Die Harmoniemusik erlebte in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts einen großen Aufschwung. Das Repertoire glänzt - wie die vorliegende mehrsätzige Komposition - durch erweiterte Vielfalt sowie vermehrte dynamische und klangliche Differenzierung und Virtuosität.

„A great deal oft he main thematic material is distributed between the horns in dialogue and antiphonal exchanges, but there are also numerous flourishes for the other players, the clarinets in particular, to enjoy. A very substantial first movement in sonata form is followed by a slower, more lyrical and very attractive second, and a highly effective sonata rondo brings the piece to a close.
